Kiss-Cut vs Die-Cut Stickers: What's the Difference?
A kiss-cut sticker is cut through the vinyl layer only, so the sticker peels off a backing sheet that stays intact. A die-cut sticker is cut through both the vinyl and the backing, so the finished sticker is the exact shape of your design, edge to edge.
The name says it: in a kiss cut, the blade only "kisses" the material, deep enough to cut the printed vinyl but not the liner underneath. In a die cut, the cut goes all the way through, in printing we do this from your vector outline or build the cut line for you.
Kiss-cut: easy peel, sheet-friendly
Because the backing stays whole, kiss-cut stickers are easier to peel (there is a border of backing to grip), can be produced on sheets with several stickers per page, and protect the sticker's edges until use. They suit sticker sheets, product labels applied by hand, and giveaways.
Die-cut: the shape is the sticker
A die-cut follows your artwork's outline exactly, so what you hand out is the shape itself, a logo, a mascot, a bottle silhouette. The premium look for laptop stickers and brand merch, and how most custom-shape vinyl decals are made.
Which one for your job?
Choose kiss-cut when stickers are applied by hand at speed (labels, packaging, sheets of multiple designs). Choose die-cut when the sticker itself is the product and the custom shape is the point. Both are printed on the same vinyl stocks; the difference is the cut, not the material.
Common questions
Which is cheaper, kiss-cut or die-cut stickers?
For the same size and quantity they usually price similarly, since the material and printing are the same. Complex die-cut shapes can add setup work; simple shapes cost the same either way.
Can I get my logo as a die-cut sticker?
Yes. We cut from your vector outline, or build the cut line from your artwork if you only have a flat image. A small contour margin keeps thin details from tearing on the peel.
Do kiss-cut stickers work outdoors?
The cut style does not change durability, the vinyl and lamination do. The same outdoor-rated vinyl can be kiss-cut or die-cut, so tell us where the sticker will live and we will match the material.
