What Are Grommets on a Banner?
Grommets are the small metal rings pressed into the edges of a vinyl banner. They reinforce the hanging holes so rope, zip ties, bungee cords or hooks pull against metal instead of tearing through the material. On our banners, hemmed edges plus grommets every 2 feet along the long side are part of standard finishing.
The hem matters as much as the ring: the banner edge is folded and welded double thickness first, then the grommet is set through the hem, so the hanging point is the strongest part of the banner rather than the weakest.
Placement and spacing
Corners always get grommets; along the edges, spacing about every 2 feet keeps a banner from bellying and flapping between attachment points. Outdoors, more attachment points spread wind load, which is what determines whether a banner survives a gusty weekend on a fence.
Pole pockets, D-rings and wind slits
Grommets are the default, not the only option. Pole pockets sew a sleeve into the top or bottom edge for hanging on a rod or between posts; D-rings suit tensioned installs; wind slits relieve pressure on large outdoor banners in exposed locations. All are available on request, tell us where the banner will hang and we will suggest the right finishing.
Which one for your job?
Keep the standard grommets for fences, railings, scaffolding and most storefront installs. Ask for pole pockets when the banner hangs from a rod or between two posts, and consider wind slits for large banners in exposed outdoor spots. If you tell us the location when ordering, the finishing comes matched to it.
Common questions
Do banners come with grommets included?
Yes. Every vinyl banner we produce ships with hemmed edges and grommets every 2 feet on the long side as standard finishing, there is nothing to add or configure for the common case.
How do I hang a banner without damaging it?
Attach through every grommet, not just the corners, using zip ties, bungees or rope, and keep the banner tensioned flat. Loose banners flap, and flapping is what enlarges holes and wears through material over time.
What size are the grommets?
Standard banner grommets take common zip ties, hooks, rope and bungee cords without trouble. If your mounting hardware is unusual, tell us when ordering and we will confirm the fit before production.
