Paper vs Vinyl Stickers: Which Material Does Your Label Need?
Paper stickers are printed on a paper face stock with adhesive on the back: inexpensive, easy to write on, but they tear, scuff and soften when wet. Vinyl stickers are printed on a thin plastic film: waterproof, flexible, tear-resistant and longer-lasting, which is why bottles, laptops, vehicles and anything that lives outdoors call for vinyl.
The adhesive is a separate choice from the face: either material can carry a permanent adhesive that is meant to stay, or a removable one that peels off cleanly.
When paper labels make sense
Paper is the classic office and shipping label: address labels, file labels, price tags, short-life product labels and anything people write on with a pen. It is the low-cost option when the label stays dry and indoors and is not expected to last. It is not a material we sell online; our stickers and labels are vinyl.
Vinyl stickers and labels we print
Our decal labels are printed in full colour on white vinyl with a permanent or removable adhesive, in 14 sizes from 1 x 1 in up to 5 x 5 in and 4 x 6 in, cut square or rectangular, round, oval or to the shape of your design. For larger graphics, our adhesive vinyl comes in sizes from 11 x 17 in to 48 x 96 in, on permanent vinyl (3.4 mil), removable vinyl (3.2 mil) or clear vinyl with white ink, among other films.
Permanent or removable adhesive
Permanent adhesive is for labels that must not come off: product, nutrition and warning labels, equipment and bumper stickers. Removable adhesive is for anything temporary: promotions, event decals, labels on surfaces you want to keep clean. Removable does not mean reusable; it means it lifts without leaving residue when it is time.
Which one for your job?
Choose vinyl whenever the sticker meets water, sun, handling or a curved surface, and when it should look good for a long time. Paper is fine for dry, short-life, writable labels. Then pick the adhesive by how long the sticker should stay put.
Common questions
Are vinyl stickers waterproof?
The vinyl itself is: it does not absorb water, so vinyl stickers handle rain, condensation and washing far better than paper. Paper stickers soften and peel when wet.
Can I write on vinyl stickers?
A permanent marker works; ballpoint pens struggle on most vinyl. If people need to write on the label with a pen, paper is the better face stock.
Do you print paper stickers?
Our online stickers and labels are vinyl, permanent or removable. For a paper label job, contact the shop and describe it.
